for everyone
Hi, it's certainly been a while since I actually did anything around here, so to break the silence, here's the first short animation I've made on my course.
I brought all my bad habits with me from school and college, so predictably I left this until the last minute (well...the last 4 nights before deadline). There's no way I'll be able to get away with this in the future though, so I'll get over the habit or I'll fail.

The title on the brief was "Rise of the machines", which required a 10 second animation. My first idea was simply a robot standing in a lift, tapping its foot as the light on the button pad rose to the top - but the brief also called for 3 machines using a variety of animation techniques.
We were also given a choice of when the animation should take place - turn of the century (victorian/edwardian), 50's, 70's or futuristic. Hopefully it's obvious I went for the steampunk victorian style. The first object is how I imagine a microwave might have been made a hundred years ago, followed by a tin opener and an oven.

I think I'd have tried a robot with mustache awakening and smashing an alarm clock, then a human comes in and turns on the coffee maker. Sort of like waking up with George Jetson, but with machines playing the people parts ....

Yours is cool. Reminds me of 'Wild Wild West' style robotics.

Yeah, now that you mention it.

Well done!

Very creative!

(I've been promising myself I'll learn Flash animation for years now. So, for the public record, I commit to doing that thing this year. Please throw something at me if I don't post an original Flash animation by the end of the month.)
